Job Summary

The University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center is looking to hire a Clinical Database Manager / Programmer to join an established Analytic Team within the M-CHORD (Michigan Congenital Heart Outcomes Research and Discovery) group. M-CHORD supports the research endeavors of all faculty, APPs, and trainee investigators in pediatric cardiology and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. This position requires collaboration and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities*

  • Responsible for implementation and maintenance of complex clinical research databases for the Congenital Heart Center.    
  • Provide clear input and guidance to faculty and trainee investigators during the project design phase, under supervision of more senior research staff. This includes: identifying important variables that investigators may not have considered, converting variables listed by the investigators into measurable data elements, and identifying data sources to maximize project efficiency (for example, minimizing having to dig through charts to locate hard-to-find data elements).
  • After designing the database; oversee data entry, cleaning/editing, and creation of analysis files, under supervision of more senior research staff. Ensure that analysis files are ready on-time for high-profile conference abstract deadlines, like the American Heart Association conference.  
  • Track and regularly report status of all clinical research projects to analytic team.
  • Work with outside collaborators to establish access to databases for data entry purposes and perform multi-site data cleaning.  
  • Assist departmental data team with administrative and faculty data requests.    
  • Provide input on manuscripts, project reports, and grant applications.    

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Demonstrated ability in database design and development, including normalization and automated data quality assurance is required.
  • Experience in SAS data step techniques and macro language is required.
  • Excellent project documentation skills are required.  
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are required.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience building databases in REDCap is desired.
  • Experience using SAS for administrative and/or clinical health data is desired.

Background Screening
