Job Summary

This research laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Lab Technician who works well independently for a basic research position.

Responsibilities*

The laboratory studies gastrointestinal stem cell biology by defining basic signaling pathways that regulate proliferation and differentiation in the stomach and intestine. We use genetic and pharmacologic mouse models and cultured cell models, including organoids in our research.

  • Maintaining mouse breeding colonies and preparing reports for laboratory members.
  • PCR genotyping mice, including development of new PCR genotyping assays.
  • Maintaining lab supplies and stocks, including ordering new supplies.
  • Oversight of IACUC and OSEH standards for the laboratory.
  • Supervising part-time undergraduate research assistants.

Perform independent research and general research support to assist laboratory researchers, including tissue processing, sectioning and histology of mouse and human tissues; immunohistochemical staining and microscopy of tissue sections; analysis of gene expression by qRT-PCR; cell culture and gene transfer experiments.

Required Qualifications*

Detail oriented, responsible individual with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research team, and be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with team members.

Must be comfortable handling mice.

Research Lab Tech Associate: 

  •  Associate's Degree and 0-1 years' experience required.

Research Lab Tech Intermediate: 

  • Bachelor's  Degree and 1-3 years' experience required. 

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in biological science or a related field.

Experience working in a biomedical research laboratory, including handling mice and PCR genotyping.

Some experience in histological staining and microscopic analysis of tissue sections.

Knowledge of chemical solution preparation and operation of basic research laboratory equipment (micropipettors, centrifuges, balances, pH meter, autoclave).

Ability to read the primary scientific literature and implement new laboratory protocols.

Work Schedule

M-F, 8 hour/days, with some weekends as needed.
