Job Summary
Performs diagnostic exercise and pharmacologic stress exams in conjunction with Nuclear Cardiology imaging applications, which incorporates the use of radioactive tracers and advanced medical imaging modalities to evaluate, diagnose, and treat heart conditions. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of this service following the Code of Conduct of the appropriate certification board (ACSM). Provides appropriate patient care following the Radiology Gold Service Excellence guidelines to achieve successful completion of the procedure. Contributes as a team member to enhance job stewardship mindful of Internal and External customer service standards.

Responsibilities*
- Perform and monitor diagnostic stress and pharmacologic exams according to established protocols as part of Myocardial Perfusion Imaging in Nuclear medicine which includes the following:
- Patient 12 lead EKG preparation and placement, placement of IV catheters, continuous monitoring of EKG and blood pressure during the NM stress test, administration, and infusion of pharmacologic stress medications along with reversal agents, administration of Radiopharmaceutical tracers during stress testing, completing associated patient history worksheets, contacting scheduled patients to explain the procedure and inform them of any preparations, utilizes nuclear medicine equipment following proper protocols.
- Protocolling patient studies-Determining proper imaging modality (PET vs. SPECT), stress type (pharmacological vs. treadmill), and imaging sequences based on the patient history, attributes and indications on order and routing to NM providers.
- Prepare preliminary stress test results for further review by the Director of Cardiovascular Nuclear Medicine.
- Radiation safety training by RSS for safe handling, administration, and spill response. This includes initial Radiation training upon hire, annual competencies required for ongoing use and handling of radiotracers, radioactive dose handling and administration techniques, dose verification and charting according to local policies for safe handling of radioisotopes, survey meter training and use to recognize spills and to confirm or deny contamination of areas and personnel, radiation spill response training including clean up and decontamination of area, equipment, and personnel, proper radioactive waste management and training for segregation of isotope waste, and personal dosimetry training upon hire and adherence to dosimeter policies.

- Follows Infection Control practices utilizing aseptic techniques, observing Universal precautions, and patient safety standards.
- Assists with the education of Nuclear Medicine Technology Students and/or health care professionals and participates in the division?s quality improvement program for the area.
- Possesses a positive work ethic to enhance teamwork in a fast-paced environment and is accountable for actions.
- All other related duties.
RELATED DUTIES
- Identifies and enters data into the Radiology Information System and the Pacs and Hospital Information System.
- Monitors the Order Entries for all patient exams.
- Educates and monitors mandatory competencies for patient safety, infection control, fire safety, corporate compliance, and patient confidentiality. Including additional assigned educational modules for self-improvement.
- Maintains ACLS Certification and ACSM Registry.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology, exercise science or a related field
- Certification by the American College of Sports Medicine as an Exercise Test Technician or Exercise Specialist is required within one year of date of hire
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience in venipuncture for IV catheter placement.
- Experience in clinical testing and evaluation in a nuclear cardiology.
- General Computer experience
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work successfully with patients.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
