Job Summary

The Assistant Volleyball Coach at the University of Michigan will work directly with the Head Coach to develop and maintain a competitive NCAA Division I volleyball program while upholding the university's commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

Responsibilities*

Essential Functions

  • Assist in planning and conducting daily practices, including skill development, game strategy, and individual development plans
  • Lead position-specific training sessions and provide technical instruction to student-athletes 
  • Lead recruiting efforts by identifying, evaluating, and maintaining relationships with prospective student-athletes 
  • Analyze opponent game films and develop scouting reports 
  • Support student-athlete academic progress and promote academic excellence 
  • Assist in match preparation, in-game coaching, and post-game analysis 
  • Maintain compliance with NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University of Michigan regulations 
  • Participate in community outreach programs and alumni relations events

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and developing student-athletes
  • Excellence in technical volleyball instruction and player development
  • Must work with and communicate effectively with all team members and support staff within Michigan Athletics and the UM community.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent computer and technical skills.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis for recruiting and team travel
     

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with specific volleyball software including, but not limited to: University Athlete, VolleyStation, and VolleyMetrics
     

Modes of Work

Onsite: The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
