Job Summary

We are looking for a self-motivated, compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individual to participate in a team model approach dedicated to providing complex care to patients followed by our Center for Circulatory Support team. You will work with the Center for Circulatory Support team, providers, and CVC Clinic/Call Center staff to improve patient care and improve processes to enhance the patient experience.

Responsibilities*

  • Complete pre-visit phone calls, prescription renewals and prior authorizations. Inform patients of necessary preparations prior to visit or test in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Form preparation (e.g., travel documents, return to work letters, return to school letters, FMLA, disability paperwork).
  • Monitor and send mail, faxes, and other paperwork. Scan medical documents into patient?s chart and send necessary paperwork to HIM when needed.
  • Assist with INTERMACS questionnaires and patient-related surveys.
  • Work with the CVC Call Center and Clinic Staff to schedule patient appointments, review overbooked appointments, and retrieve medical records urgently, as needed.
  • Maintain monthly staff schedule in group calendar and monthly on-call paging schedule within the hospital paging website.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of customer service or general office or related experience.
  • Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility, courtesy, and respect; consistently share information and resources with others.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement utilizing strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be organized, able to set priorities, exercise initiative, and work well under time constraints.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated record of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Demonstrated competence in keyboarding and computer literacy is required, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Outlook.
  • Demonstration of commitment to the FCVC Core Values.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Recent experience working within a large, complex healthcare setting. 
  • Demonstrated competency in EPIC software or other electronic health record. 
  • Recent experience assisting nursing staff with results communication and patient form completion.

Work Schedule

Part-time Monday-Friday, days, no holidays, or weekends.

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the Service Employees International Union - Healthcare Michigan (SEIU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
