Job Summary
This position provides cataloging and deselection support for materials in the Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (SEEES) backlog as part of the library?s Undescribed Collections and Repository Readiness initiatives. Job responsibilities include:
Pre-catalog searching in local (Alma) and external (OCLC WorldCat, BTAA) online catalogs
Identifying needed metadata corrections to existing brief bibliographic records in Alma
Inputting basic bibliographic data in a Google form and spreadsheet for items without Alma records
Assessing items for de-selection using established criteria
Additional activities may include barcoding, stamping, and/or physically locating and shifting books
Required Qualifications*
- Reading comprehension of one Slavic language written in Cyrillic.
- Ability to transliterate or learn to transliterate SEEES non-Latin script alphabets accurately, based on the ALA-LC Romanization Tables.
- Familiarity with history and culture of Eastern Europe and/or regions of the former Soviet Union and/or the Balkans.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications
- Attention to detail
- Able to perform physical tasks such as shifting large quantities of books.
