Job Summary

Actively participate as a co-investigator to cultivate testable research hypotheses aimed at expanding the evidence-based research in the field of bariatric surgery and obesity medicine. Independently develop statistical methodology for internal single-center, multi-center and externally funded research projects.

 

Responsibilities*

  • Execute the proper study design and statistical plan to adequately address study hypotheses
  • Gather, manage, and analyze various clinical and public-reporting datasets for analysis according to established statistical methods
  • Interpret statistical results and present information to investigating researchers
  • Write technical methodology and results sections  - including text, charts, graphs, and figures - for manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals
  • Project management for research projects, including but not limited to, grant negotiations, development of data collection tools, teaching collaborators on extraction techniques and weekly teleconferences with collaborators and stakeholders
  • Complete mandatory study-specific paperwork, such as Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, budgets and timelines
  • Work with physicians, nurses and programmers to adequately extract clinical data for reporting rare events in quality assurance measures
  • Develop risk-adjustment strategies to report quality assurance metrics to minimize patient harm
  • Determine the most effective presentation techniques to disseminate quality assurance reporting to providers on how they rank compared to their peers
  • Foster communication with investigators from other fields of medicine to nurture cross-disciplinary research utilizing institutional electronic health record data
  • Mentor junior level department analysts in statistical techniques and methodology

Required Qualifications*

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Public Health (MPH) or Statistics (MS) or recognized field of science directly related to the duties of this position.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working directly with statistical methodology and research design
  • Must be able to work independently to develop and execute all aspects of a research project.
  • Must be comfortable working as a co-investigator within a larger research network.
  • Coding and analysis experience with SAS, SPSS, R, Stata programming languages.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Master's degree preferred.
