The Gift Liaison, Audit and Reporting is responsible for the accuracy of all gift-related revenue to Michigan Medicine, serves as an Office of Development expert on PCI compliance, IRS, CASE and Standard Practice Guide (SPG) guidelines, and other university policies and requirements, and provides reporting on donor giving and fund activity.

Responsibilities*

Gift Administration Audits- 35%

  • Serve as the Gift Finance team lead for all auditing projects
  • Reconcile tribute giving reports weekly to verify accuracy of gift information, tribute information in the donor database, and faculty funds
  • Reconcile grateful patient pledge reports weekly to verify accuracy of gift and donor information
  • Manage monthly reconciliation of the gift log, including training and researching and executing required corrections

Reporting - 25%

  • Compile and deliver fund activity reports as requested
  • Compile and deliver donor giving history reports as requested
  • Prepare and deliver weekly gift report
  • Prepare and deliver monthly pledge and past-due pledge reports and work with gift officers to update report and support specialized delivery requests

Tribute Gifts Management - 20%

  • Serve as the Gift Finance team lead and expert for tribute giving and train team members on requirements of tribute gift acceptance, verification, and reporting
  • Manage tribute intakes, including giving link and envelope requests and maintaining database of family/acknowledge contact information
  • Review tribute letters weekly to ensure accuracy; update tribute letter template quarterly

Gift Finance Support- 15%

  • During times of increased volume, assist members of the Gift Finance team with critical and time-sensitive functions, including processing gifts, updating financial and donor biographical information, opening and modifying gift funds, and processing journal entries
  • Communicate Gift Finance policies/procedures for Michigan Medicine Development, including for cash handling, fund minimums and requirements, reconciliations, financial transfers, and reporting
  • Serve as a MM Development expert on federal tax reporting requirements such as PCI compliance, IRS, CASE and Standard Practice Guide (SPG) guidelines, and other university policies and requirements; make decisions regarding compliance and educate stakeholders

  • Other work and/or special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible finance/accounting or gift fund processing experience, preferably in a fundraising environment
  • Detail- and results-oriented with ability to accurately manage large amounts of data
  • Experience generating reports from a variety of sources
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail
  • Proven ability to use discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work flexible hours with occasional weekend and evening work as necessary
  • Reliable remote internet service

Desired Qualifications*

  • Development experience in an academic health system setting with a comprehensive development program
  • Experience with DART or other similar donor management systems 
  • Demonstrated competence in providing service to those experiencing sensitive circumstances (e.g. loss, illness)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook 365) and Google Drive
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan organization, policies, and procedures

Work Locations

The onsite location for this position is an office suite at the 777 Building in Ann Arbor. The work schedule includes working 3 days on site, 2 days remote. This does require flexibility based on the work demands.

The location at 777 provides free, on-site parking for staff.

This position may be eligible for flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment. This position works both onsite and remotely based on the business needs of the unit.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
