Job Summary

The Laboratory of Tumor Immunopathology of Dr. Navin R. Mahadevan in the Department of Pathology at Michigan Medicine/University of Michigan is seeking an energetic, highly motivated individual for a Research Lab Specialist Lead/Intermediate. The successful candidate is expected to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment. In this role, the candidate will work as part of a team examining the epigenetic regulation of immunogenicity in lung cancer. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day lab management and perform routine laboratory experimental procedures in one or more areas of work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities*

  • Routine mammalian cell culture maintenance: passaging of adherent and suspension cells, freezing and recovering cell lines, and keep good record for cell line bank.
  • Develop and maintain primary tumor and/or immune cell culture or organoids from patients and mouse models.
  • Development of arrayed CRISPR screening assay for T cell activation.
  • Technique: Cell culture including 2D and 3D format, protein, RNA and gDNA extraction from cells and tumor tissue, western blot, qPCR, immunofluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, Cell Titer Glo/luciferase evaluation, ELISA, Incucyte, flow cytometry, CRISPR screening.
  • Correlative studies of in vivo studies: extract protein and RNA from tumor or organs to examine the on-target activity of testing compounds; flow cytometry to enumerate in vivo immune cell populations.
  • Collect and analyze data from experiments, documenting findings and presenting them to the research team.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results.
  • Collaborate with other members of the research team to ensure research projects are completed on time and meet quality standards.
  • Day-to-day lab management and routine reagent procurement.
  • Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring it is properly calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Follow and maintain all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Instruction/training of junior lab members.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduate degree (Master's/Ph.D.) in Biology, Immunology, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in biology related research for lead level and 5-6 years of experience for senior level. Research Lab Specialist Lead position maybe underfilled with senior level, which is dependent on the candidate's qualification.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability in day-to-day lab management and routine reagent procurement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to instruct junior lab members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GraphPad, and other scientific software programs.
  • Ability to follow and maintain laboratory safety protocols and procedures.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Molecular biology, Cancer biology, and immunology research lab experience.
  • Experience with CRISPR screening.
  • Familiar with PubMed or other literature search portals.
  • Experience with data organization and presentation to principal investigator.
