As our Marketing and Communications Specialist, you will find and tell the stories of our outstanding researchers and students and spread the messages of the transformative work we do to advance the common good. 

Reporting to the ChE communications team leader, you will be a strategic partner in the identification and development of storytelling and marketing opportunities that align with department goals related to reputation building, alumni engagement, student recruitment, and more. As our primary storyteller, this role also serves as a critical connection point to create a shared awareness within the department of our accomplishments by contributing to internal communications.

What You'll Do

  • Identify storytelling and marketing opportunities that align with our goals. 
  • Write and review communication materials (both print and digital) for a variety of media, including websites, newsletters, press releases, email, flyers and posters. 
  • Build and distribute compelling content, such as in-depth stories, one-pagers, and more, that promote our research, events, and efforts. 
  • As a member of the communications team, you will contribute to the development of a marketing and communications strategy for ChE that is consistent with and furthers our goals. 
  • Develop marketing and communications project scopes, schedules, and content for key department events.
  • Help to develop messaging for marketing the department's undergraduate and graduate programs. 
  • Work with the ChE Digital Marketing Specialist to help develop marketing messaging for social media and email marketing platforms. 
  • Maintain the department website by posting stories, building pages, and updating content using our CMS. 
  • Interface and coordinate work with internal and external designers, developers, photographers, and videographers on projects. 
  • Manage, assign work, and provide art direction to a student employee as needed.
  • Liaise with faculty and staff to build relationships and maintain awareness of storytelling and other marketing and communications opportunities. 
  • Build relationships and collaborate with the College's central communications and marketing team to help align department efforts with college-led storytelling and marketing plans and access resources. 
  • Manage purchasing of marketing and communications materials.
  • Help perform market research to analyze peer organizations.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a marketing or communications position. 
  • Experience developing written communications such as articles, web copy or marketing/advertisements. 
  • Experience developing and managing web properties. 
  • Experience working in a multi-layered organization with complex relationships and reporting.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and creating a positive, inclusive workplace. 

Modes of Work

We value the benefits of a hybrid work model and aim to provide our team members with the best of both worlds - remote work flexibility and in-person collaboration. The expectation for this role is a minimum of 2-3 days onsite at the Ann Arbor, MI campus for collaborative meetings, engaging directly with our vibrant academic community, and other on-site tasks. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
