Job Summary
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) provides students an opportunity to work as research assistants on faculty-generated projects. UROP awards students stipends of up to $1000 are available during the Fall funding cycle. Students are paid bi-weekly, at $15/hr. Student assistants report directly to the faculty mentor on pre-approved research projects. If available, work-study funding and/or faculty supplemental funding (grants, department funding, etc) may also be used to fund UROP projects.
The Flint Community-Engaged Research Program (FCERP) operates in a similar manner to UROP, except students are placed with community members in Flint and the surrounding areas.

Job offers for this application will ONLY be given to UM-Flint undergraduate students who have successfully applied to a project via InfoReady ( https://umflint.infoready4.com/#urop) AND have been accepted to the project by the faculty project sponsor. The last day to apply for a Winter UROP and FCERP placement on InfoReady is Friday, January 31, 2025.
Additionally, qualified applicants are REQUIRED to do the following:
- Participate in a virtual UROP/FCERP info session
- Apply online to this job posting at http://careers.umich.edu/
- Obtain certification in the Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarship Training module in PEERRS
- Complete the Sexual Harassment and Misconduct training module
- Complete All HR requirements including the Go Blue New Student Orientation, the I-9 process, and background check consent.
- (Once placed on a project) Submit a progress report via InfoReady after the term is completed.
Modes of Work
Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Background Screening
The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
