Responsibilities*

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

With minimal supervision, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and support systems of varying complexity at Michigan Medicine. The Primary area of responsibility is in the bed shop and other on-campus locations. Responsibilities include infusion devices, beds, stretchers, patient lifts, exam tables, surgical lights, surgical tables, hypo/hyperthermia units, sequential compression units, food pumps, and blood warmers. Factory training is provided.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work performed is documented in the work order database system AIMS. Additional duties include identifying and preparing parts and materials necessary for repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned devices. Cross-training for other Biomedical Engineering Technicians for expanded backup support is also required.

Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The primary job site is the Michigan Medicine main campus. Technicians must have a valid Michigan driver's license and be able to drive a motor vehicle.

Required Qualifications*

  • An associate degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent Military training is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced analog and digital electronics.
  • Minimum of 0-3 years of experience repairing and maintaining medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment.

Work Schedule

Work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
