Job Summary
The Health Information Exchange (HIE) Support Team Privacy Lead provides customer service and operational support for increasingly complex HIE activity or issues, while ensuring compliance with Michigan Medicine policies, state/federal laws, and regulations. Functional supervision may be provided to HIE Support Specialist team members (Administrative Specialist Associate Health) as applicable and assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist operations with process proficiency including the ability to prioritize and respond to patient requests for MyUofMHealth portal activation
- When needed for operational coverage or assistance, provide help desk/support functions to patient and provider portal users.
- Audit access to MyUofMHealth Patient Portal and / or ECL Provider Portal including recommendations as appropriate for possible revocation of access
- Investigate potential privacy violations and correspond with the Office of Clinical Safety and Compliance regarding any patient issues or privacy violations
- Monitor policies, regulations, and compliance requirements as they pertain to HIE Support and interpret for faculty and staff. Assist with the development and revision of associated Department policies as directed and assigned.
- Develop, maintain, and update program standards for monitoring and auditing potential violations of patient privacy related to the MyUofMHealth Patient Portal, ECL Provider Portal, and Epic Care Everywhere in collaboration with the Unit Supervisor and Senior Manager.
- Assist and educate faculty, clinical staff, patients, and the public on patient enrollment and/or proxy access to MyUofMHealth Patient Portal in compliance with federal, state, and health system policy, standards, and regulations. This includes proactive and reactive education as needed and appropriate.

Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor?s degree in Health Information Management, Compliance, or related field, or equivalent years of experience, education, or certification to meet the position's requirements
- Two years in a support position that exposes the individual to or includes phone or virtual support models and services (e.g., call center, help desk, customer service), including privacy concepts, investigations, compliance issues and standards
- Expert knowledge of patient and provider portals and health information exchange functionality
- Knowledge of requirements related to adherence to patient confidentiality and privacy policies
- Experience using UMH / Michigan Medicine information systems/applications (e.g., MiChart) or similar experience with a health system using the epic electronic health record platform
- Strong public speaking skills and the ability to facilitate and execute virtual training sessions
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 tools and applications for work tasks
- Ability to work independently or in a team with minimal supervision
Modes of Work

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
