Job Summary

Dedicated and hard-working research assistant/technician sought to help with biomedical research aimed at understanding 1) The role of stem cells in skin/hair follicle development and wound healing, and 2) The molecular basis of skin cancer associated with reactivation of embryonic signaling pathways. This individual will play a primary role assisting with research using various cell culture and mouse models, will help with the day-to-day operations needed to run an active research lab, and will also participate directly in experimental studies. This individual will be an integral part of a busy lab, so outstanding communication skills, careful attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills are essential. This is an entry level position.

Responsibilities*

Transport of samples between hospital, lab, and cores (shuttle available). Perform routine molecular and cellular biology experimental procedures under the supervision of research staff. These experimental procedures include but are not limited to; isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from whole human blood, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, microscopy, cell culture, preparation of samples for histology and any other experimental protocols needed to move the project forward. Help to maintain meticulous organization of patient samples. Aid in tracking and shipping samples to and from collaborators. Maintain thorough experimental records and protocols. Aid clinical coordinators in distributing/editing recruitment materials.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate's degree from an accredited university, or equivalent experience. 
  • 1 year of laboratory technician experience. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team environment are essential.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including human cells and tissue processing, tissue sectioning, DNA/RNA isolation, microscopy. 
  • 2 years experience with science-related projects preferred.

Background Screening
