Job Summary

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support. This position is with the Health Information Exchange (HIE) and DataWorks team.
 

The DataWorks team leads the design, implementation, and support of enterprise-wide data services across Michigan Medicine. Our flagship services include Data Governance, data and analytics access, and the Data Concierge. Our goal is to help empower clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff to navigate our data environment more easily with these data services. 
 

Supervision Received
This position will report to the Director of Data Collaboratives & Governance in the Enterprise Data and Information Services (EDIS) Division of Health Information Technology & Services (HITS).

Responsibilities*

Requirements Gathering:

  • Interact with customers to understand their data related workflows then collaborate with the Service Management team to develop service catalog items to automate the workflows.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to define solutions and address requirements.
  • Investigate and document project scope and requirements. Review, understand, and document the current processes and data sources to design their service. 
  • Collaborate with Data Stewards and stakeholders to define key terms for Data Governance.

Communication:

  • Communicate status of work to project leadership team members, and customers.  
  • Contribute knowledge of the healthcare industry, including knowledge of healthcare data and common issues, to team and customers.  
  • Participate in strategic planning for projects. Design and review technical solutions for new development and ongoing work. 
  • Track and manage commitments from the DataWorks team to our customers and from our customers to the team.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings, review commitments, work with internal support personnel to complete required business processes.

Required Qualifications*

Requirements for Senior Level

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Information Sciences, Data Science, Health Sciences, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of IT related experience. 

Requirements for Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-3 years of IT related experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Information Sciences, Data Science, Health Sciences, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience with Data Governance concepts and programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview.
  • Experience in requirements gathering and data analysis. 
  • Experience with IT project management concepts and tools. 
  • Solid and effective written, interpersonal, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team.
  • Willingness and strong aptitude to learn new technologies and assume increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adjust to changing priorities, processes, and project plans.
  • Experience with understanding and documenting workflows and clinical processes. 
  • Experience creating data-driven solutions.
  • Familiarity with analytic tools, business intelligence tools, and statistical packages.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and other healthcare information regulations and requirements.
  • Familiarity with ticketing help-desk software such as ServiceNow.
  • Experience designing and maintaining Service Catalog items a plus.
  • An understanding of data warehousing solutions.
  • Familiar with HITS and Michigan Medicine environment internal practices.

Modes of Work
