Job Summary
The person in this role will become part of a multidisciplinary research team involved in the advancement of a cardiovascular disease biobank and would be responsible for identification, screening and enrollment of research participants to a biorepository. This role is ideal for persons interested in pursuing medical school or furthering their career in the field of health care or research.
Please note that this position is a temporary 1-year term position.
Responsibilities*
40% Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities
- Identify, screen, and enroll patients from Michigan Medicine into the biorepository and various databases utilizing in-person and remote consent methods.
- Perform study-specific tests in clinic such as short cognitive assessment and walk test.
- Coordinate blood and occasional tissue sample collections.
- Biospecimen transportation and storage.
40% Data Coordinator Responsibilities
- Perform data management, such as entering information into web application, laboratory information system, and Microsoft Excel.
- Assist with collection of medical information, laboratory data, and questionnaires from patients through interview, an online database system, phone calls, or electronic medical record.
- Demonstrates the ability to complete simple data collection during study visits.
- Enter data to complete forms (CRFs) on paper and in databases.
- Checks own work and confirms accuracy.
10% Administrative Responsibilities
- Demonstrates understanding of the clinical research objectives associated with the program.
- May communicate with study participants such as sending study correspondence via mail or email.
- May schedule subjects for research visits and FU appointments.
- May check the study calendar for completion of study procedures.
- May utilize documents and systems to track recruitment and retention of participants.
10% Training
- PEERRS, HIPAA, CITI GCP
- Gains appropriate training & knowledge of EMR, EMERSE, LabVantage, databases, etc. as assigned.
- Willing to learn and use available technology and systems to accomplish job requirements.
- Understands the disease process per program.
- Attends and participates in all training classes assigned to this level.
Functional supervision will be provided by the Principal and Co-Investigators, MI-AORTA Leadership Team, and Project Manager; administrative supervision will be provided by the MI-AORTA Administrative Manager.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelors degree in a health science or health-related field.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to sustain a high level of organization.
- Punctual and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired Qualifications*
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical and research terminology.
- Prior research experience.
- Experience with MiChart, REDCap web application, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with patients in a healthcare setting.
Work Schedule
Shift/Hours/Days: In office, M-F with general core hours from 8am - 4pm with some flexibility (not to exceed 40 hours/week).
Tentative start date: April/May 2025.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
