Job Summary

Procurement Agents negotiate the terms and conditions of all of the contracts for UMHS as well as manage all bid events making sure that the Procurement Standard Practice Guide (507.01) and the procurement rules of the State of Michigan are being followed.  They also deal with supplier performance problems and collaborate with departments throughout UMHS on all things related to product or service acquisition.  Procurement Agents are also involved in many of the cost reduction activities currently taking place at UMHS.

Responsibilities*

Position responsible for the management of several UMHS Agreements.  Contracting activities include:  collaborating with stakeholders on the acquisition of goods and services; managing bid events; negotiating legal and business terms in UMHS agreements; collaborating with Legal, Risk Management, Compliance and other departments as necessary to complete contracting activities; developing documentation to support engagements following SPG 507.01 rules in order to obtain the appropriate signature on the Agreement; working with UMHS departments to solve problems related to existing or future contracts and working with Shared Services on payment issues.

 

Required Qualifications*

  • BA / BS degree in Business Administration/Supply Chain, or equivalent.
  • One to two years of procurement or related supply chain experience. 
  • Solid negotiation skills.  Strong analytical skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to organize, problem solve and manage multiple projects. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Excel, Word & Power Point.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Operates independently and determines expectations of peers and customers.    
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Basic knowledge of University of Michigan policy procedures, presents basic information accurately, acts in an ethical manner. 
  • Basic understanding of the procurement process.  
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Internet applications for basic search functions.   
  • Two to three years in a sales, buying, or materials management function.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
