Job Summary
Technical Services is responsible for the ongoing evaluation and renewal of the University Library's serials, continuations, and database subscriptions. You will ensure accurate renewal and cancelation processing, database management, and metadata coordination with Technical Services units and vendors.
The Serials Management Librarian will coordinate communication between vendors and selectors related to pricing and subscription related questions. They also serve as an important liaison for the activation of relevant knowledge base records/collections, identifying bibliographic data for correction, with attention to title changes and splits, and facilitating seamless access to renewed resources.
You will report to the Head of the Order Unit within the Technical Services department, a part of the Collections division.
You will provide oversight and coordination of peer activities but will not provide direct supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Responsibilities*
60% Renewal processing and workflow management
- Coordinate among Technical Services units to oversee the renewal/cancelation process for all serials, continuations, and database subscriptions. Support electronic package subscription renewal.
- Analyze and identify workflow priorities, ensure processing, and resolve any issues independently.
- Be contact for vendors and selectors, facilitating communication around renewals.
- Approve invoices for renewal payments and ensure accurate financial tracking.
- Maintain documentation for renewals workflows full life cycle, including acquisitions and metadata .
30% Metadata coordination and database management
- Coordinate with Technical Services and vendors to identify electronic resource collections within our Library Services Platform for activation and to manage title changes for physical resources.
- Identify systemic issues or gaps within renewal workflows and propose solutions.
- Primary for monitoring updates from vendors and staying informed about changes that may affect renewals or metadata. Communicate across Technical Services or reassign to units as appropriate.
10% Leadership through professional activities
- Collaborate in the workflow acquisition of Library resources, including the ongoing pursuit of process improvements, and the development and distribution of policies.
- Keep up to date with latest technologies, trends, and standards related to the management of licensed and Open Access resources. Initiate discussion of these within the U-M Library.
- Professional engagement and activity are expected; represent the University Library by participating in library, campus, consortial, and national task forces, committees, and special projects.
- Be active in research, outreach, and professional service. Sharing with library colleagues relevant information gained from collaborative efforts.
Required Qualifications*
- ALA-accredited master's degree or an equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.
- 1-2 years analytical work, technical skills, and a demonstrated commitment to staff development.
- 6 months of project management experience.
- A clear vision for the future of acquisitions and resource access and desire to achieve that vision in a fluid technological environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to work with a variety of colleagues and levels of staff, aligning with our organizational philosophy of One Library and the ability to promote teamwork, equity, and inclusiveness.
Modes of Work
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

The anticipated hire date is Spring 2025.
This is a term limited appointment of 3 years.
Appointment is anticipated as an Assistant Librarian. Salary and rank are dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The target salary range for this position is $62,500 to $66,500. For questions about this posting or to request accommodations, please contact [email protected].
This appointment is subject to the UM/LEO-GLAM collective bargaining agreement.
