The Killian and Abraham Laboratories in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Michigan Medicine are seeking a Research Laboratory Specialist to join our team. Responsibilities*

We are in search of an individual to join a team investigating tendon development, adaptation, and healing using both in vivo mouse models and in vitro cell culture. The candidate will be responsible for leading projects using in vitro culture of primary human and mouse fibroblasts as well as cell lines for use in 2D and 3D culture to investigate the role of cell-matrix interactions, microphysiological systems, and drug discovery. Prior experience in cell transfection, aseptic technique, biochemical assays, confocal microscopy, primary cell maintenance, and BSL2 is desired. The individual hired for this position will also be expected to: 

  • contribute to projects using transgenic mouse studies, including in vivo imaging and histology/microscopy
  • assist with general laboratory safety and management 
  • supervises staff as well as undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory
  • develop autonomy in research for gathering data, administering tests, recording observations and measurements, and setting up and operating laboratory equipment
  • perform routine computations and computer analyses
  • responsible for completing lab documentation for inspections
  • assists with manuscript, proposal, and annual report writing
  • provide assistance in developing and designing research projects and suggest options for improvement 

Required Qualifications*

  • MS degree in biology or pharmaceutical sciences
  • 4-5 of experience in a related field 
  • Previous experience in basic science laboratory management 
  • Good interpersonal, team-work, organizational, and communication skills are required

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior experience with BSL2 
  • Prior management of patient samples and demonstrated compliance with IRB and IACUC protocols

Background Screening
