Job Summary

The Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, University of Michigan is seeking a research area specialist associate to develop and apply machine learning, deep-learning and/or large language model methods, visualization and algorithms to analyze various genomics data (multiplexing imaging, spatial transcriptomics, spatial metabolomics etc) or EHR data for precision medicine in cancers (eg. pancreatic cancer) and neonatal health. To participate in writing and submitting high quality journal paper and/or co-author papers in collaborations. To help mentoring new undergraduate students and first-year master students. To perform minimal lab management work as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years of experience in related field
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Familiar in programming of common statistical languages such as R, good program background in Python
  • Knowledge of Machine learning/Deep learning is needed.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods commonly used in omics, single-cell and multiplex imaging data for disease diagnosis and prediction.
  • Being familiar with Linux OS, Virtual Environment working and batch scripting.
  • High-level of personal initiative; ability to work independently as well as collaborate in teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly.

Desired Qualifications*

  • MS degree, in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, biomedical engineering, data science or other related quantitative fields.
  • Prior experience conducting scientific research and/or publishing is preferred.
  • Prior background in biology or biomedicine is a plus.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
