Who We Are

The University of Michigan is recruiting a faculty neonatologist to serve as Associate Medical Director at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow (UMH-Sparrow) in Lansing, Michigan. This leadership position blends clinical care in a regional Level III NICU with dedicated administrative responsibility and a University of Michigan faculty appointment. The role includes up to 20% protected time for program development, quality oversight, and collaborative leadership.

The UMH-Sparrow NICU includes a 35-bed Level III unit and a 12-bed Special Care Nursery, with an annual census of approximately 700-800 admissions. The Associate Medical Director will join a strong interdisciplinary team and serve as a key partner in aligning clinical care, protocols, and performance metrics across UMH-Sparrow and Michigan Medicine's broader neonatal network.

 

Required Qualifications*

About the Role

  • Clinical care in Level III NICU (35 beds) and Special Care Nursery (12 beds)
  •  Lead efforts in clinical oversight, QI, and education
  •  Develop and implement clinical guidelines and protocols
  •  Coordinate with nursing leadership and Mott faculty to align care models
  • Serve as liaison with C.S. Mott Children's Hospital for shared care initiatives
  • Oversee faculty development, onboarding, and NICU operations
  • Optional clinical service in Ann Arbor based on interests

Academic Affiliation

Includes a faculty appointment at the University of Michigan, with rank based on experience. Participation in teaching, quality improvement, and statewide collaboration is expected.

Ideal Candidates

  •  Board-certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
  •  Prior experience in NICU leadership or clinical administration preferred
  •  Strong interest in QI, systems-based practice, and team development
  • Additional training in healthcare administration, leadership, QI, or Med Ed a plus
