Job Summary

The Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) Lab is seeking a dedicated Logistic Specialist to join our team of andrologists, embryologists, and fertility healthcare providers. With a strong history of teamwork and program development, our team is looking for an individual to manage duties related to cryopreserved specimens. The primary responsibilities are outlined below.

This position reports directly to the onsite lab manager and laboratory director.

Responsibilities*

  • Inventory and audit frozen reproductive tissues, including sperm, eggs, and embryos, at the ART lab within the CRM.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping and filing systems.
  • Collaborate with CRM ART lab staff, financial specialists, legal teams, and department administrators to determine, facilitate, and manage the disposition of frozen samples. 
  • Verify and update patient contact information, as necessary.
  • Communicate with patients to collect necessary documentation in compliance with policies and lab protocols.
  • Provide patients with relevant information and instructions via phone, portal, or email regarding the disposition of frozen samples.
  • Coordinate shipments of frozen sperm, eggs, and embryos between the CRM ART lab and external laboratories, clinics, or cryostorage facilities.
  • Prepare and verify shipping paperwork following lab protocols and logistics company instructions.
  • Monitor and analyze workflows, offering solutions and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Oversee QA/QC measures for shipping containers and cryostorage tanks onsite.
  • Manage outbound and inbound specimen shipments.
  • Daily preparation and packing of 35 lb. shipping containers for dispatch and receipt.
  • Maintain and adhere to quality control standards and practices set by CLIA, FDA, and CAP.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelors Degree in a health-related discipline or equivalent experience in chemistry, biology, or a related health science.
  • US (United States) work authorization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong sense of accountability, teamwork, and the ability to improve facility operations.
  • Excellent customer service and patient communication skills are highly desirable.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with database systems is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • At least one year of experience in patient communication within a healthcare system.

Work Schedule

  • Standard hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a half-hour lunch break. Some flexibility to start 30 minutes earlier or later may be required.
  • Primarily weekday work with no holiday rotation.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
