Job Summary
The Histology Core provides sample processing, embedding, sectioning, routine H&E, special staining, and immunohistochemistry, as a fee-for-service core. We are in search of an experienced professional with leadership/managerial experience to perform the duties of an HT/HTL certified histotechnologist at a high level of expertise. The individual will also serve as the manager of the laboratory and will oversee all day-to-day operations including project management, customer communication, billing and evaluation of laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities*
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare specimens of frozen and formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue for microscopic evaluation in an efficient manner according to established policies, procedures and protocols in a high-volume academic environment.
- Assist with immunohistochemical staining of cells and/or tissues on glass slides.
- Manage laboratory day-to-day operations and oversee all financial aspects including ordering supplies and project billing.

- Maintain condition of assigned equipment, instrument and work area
- Perform other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
- General supervision is received from the Laboratory Directors.
SUPERVISION EXCERCISED
- Functional supervision may be exercised over Laboratory Assistants, Laboratory Aides, and other assigned staff.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or other related science field or an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.
- Have established expertise in all services provided by the Histology Core including basic histology, microtomy, histochemical stains and immunohistochemistry.
- HT (ASCP) certification and Qualification in Immunohistochemistry or equivalent registry is desirable
- Experience in laboratory or personnel management is highly desired but is not required.
- Evidence of excellent communication, process improvement, change management, and team building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work, and to exercise initiative in recognizing and solving problems.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
