Job Summary
The Department of Anesthesiology is a part of the University of Michigan Medical School and contributes to the University's mission to strive for excellence in clinical care, research, and medical education. We prepare specialists in the field of anesthesia, critical care, and pain management with a broad spectrum of knowledge, clinical skills, and mature interpersonal communication skills to become the consummate medical professional.
The Education Manager partners with the Residency Program Director, Core Anesthesiology Residency and the Senior Associate Chair, Education and Professionalism to strategically develop and execute high-quality, innovative, proficiency-based curricula to support the mission of continuous improvement of the residency program and within institutional requirements. This includes high level programmatic administrative management on all residency-related educational matters and in the application of policy and procedures. They serve as an important liaison with learners, faculty, other staff members, the ACGME, ABA, MM HR, and GME and are responsible for the oversite and delegation of all day-to-day operations of the Anesthesiology Residency. The Education Manager must possess strong leadership skills and personnel management and is expected to develop unique knowledge of the ACGME and Program Requirements, policies, and procedures. The Education Manager assists the Program Director in all accreditation efforts, educational programming, and support of the residents. They are a liaison between program leadership and clinical sites, including other departments and outside agencies to further the education missions. The Education Manager also collaborates closely with the Program Director to ensure compliance with the ACGME accreditation standards, the American Board of Anesthesiology policies, procedures, local GME policies and procedures, and adherence with the Rules and Regulations of the House Officer Association Contract. Additional responsibilities include compliance with House Officer Human Resource Management and the House Officer Budget. The Education Manager is a member of the leadership team for Residency Recruitment and has an important interface with prospective learners. The Education Manager provides leadership for a dynamic education team which requires an understanding of the curricular details of the resident training program and ongoing action plans for programmatic improvements.
The Education Manager reports directly to the Chief Department Administrator of Anesthesiology regarding all administrative duties and the Residency Program Director for all Residency Program expectations.

Responsibilities*
Recruitment:
- Proactively lead efforts in the annual resident recruitment process, which includes communication with applicants before, during, and after the recruitment process
- Represent the organization at multiple national conferences, actively recruiting top talent and engaging with prospective learners to promote educational opportunities and strengthen residency presence
- Collaborate with the Program Director, Communications Director, faculty, residents, and administrative staff to ensure a successful recruitment season
- Oversee the use of technology to continuously improve the recruitment process, including coordinating virtual interviews and in-person second looks
- Ensures compliance with GME rules and regulations governing requirements that define acceptable candidates for a residency position at Michigan Medicine
- Collaborate with fellowship programs to enhance resident exposure, facilitate mentorship opportunities, and represent the department at national conferences creating pipelines to subspecialty training within Anesthesiology
Program Compliance with all Regulatory Requirements:
- Manage administrative support to the Associate Chair of Education, Program Director and Education Specialist in completing all elements of the ACGME ADS, Annual Program Evaluation, Deans Dashboard, and other aspects required for continued program accreditation.
- Act as the administrative interface between the residency and Office of Graduate Medical Education. This includes understanding GME policies and procedures, attending institutional GME meetings, and providing timely responses for data from the GME office
- Provide expert advice to program leadership on the potential impact of HR policies, particularly in relation to the House Officer Association (HOA) contract, and processing the necessary HR paperwork to ensure compliance and smooth program operations Assure compliance of graduate medical education and medical student education to applicable University, Hospital, Medical School, and Department and outside agencies rules and guidelines
- Maintaining and coordinating contacts with off-site rotations including the Ann Arbor VA and Trinity Health Ann Arbor
- Using independent judgment, develop and implement methods of competency and program assessment, utilizing technology to aid in these efforts
- Monitor and ensure compliance of alternate entry pathway faculty with ABA ? (American Board of Anesthesiology) standards, regularly reporting on faculty performance and adherence to established guidelines and requirements
- Development and maintenance of alumni database
Learner Scheduling:
- Develop understanding of residency experience through scheduling optimization. This includes understanding resident clinical education, algorithms to employ for modifications, and communication with appropriate individuals
- Oversee the administrative management of the Resident Scheduling System, including the oversite of resident rotations and daily assignments, as well as modifications of assignments to ensure a balance of clinical education and clinical service needs of both the residents and the department
- Oversee the Medical Student Administrator in creating and communicating complex clinical schedules for Michigan medical students required exposures, Anesthesiology elective rotations, Health Equity Visiting Clerkship rotations and ensuring the timely delivery and completion of required evaluations on these learning experiences
- Coordinating and ensuring proper scheduling of multiple other leaners from other Michigan residency programs including but not limited to Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Oral Maxillofacial surgery and Dental
Supervision:
- Supervise Residency Program Administrators, Medical Student Administrator, and other education staff positions including approve/coordinate time off, approve timesheets, delegate job responsibilities, annual evaluations, and coordinate cross-training of educational staff positions
- Review education and administrative projects and timelines and identifies adjustments and delegation as needed
- Assisting with the management of research projects, data analysis, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams focused on improving anesthesiology education through the innovative use of EHR databases, data science, and individualized learning plans for competency development
- Create administrative training manuals/materials
Additional Duties:
- Assist the Residency Program Director, Senior Associate Chair for Education and Professionalism, and Medical Student Education Director in an assortment of projects as requested.
- Oversee and coordinate all wellness initiatives and social events for the residency program, including organizing the annual intern reception, graduation events, and other community-building activities aimed at promoting resident well-being and fostering a supportive program culture
- Collaborate with Communications Manager on education website content and website updates
- Oversee the continuing medical education (CME) process for the education applications and submit annual renewals to the CME office
Required Qualifications*
Required Qualifications Admin Manager Intermediate:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 6-9 years of professional/administrative experience
- 3-5 years of prior management, supervisory or team leader experience (with the ability to lead meetings, set agendas, prioritize, resolve conflicts and manage project and process planning and timelines).
Required Qualifications Admin Manager Associate:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5-8 years of professional/administrative experience
- 2-4 years of prior management, supervisory or team leader experience (with the ability to lead meetings, set agendas, prioritize, resolve conflicts and manage project and process planning and timelines).

Desired Qualifications*
- Master's Degree Preferred
- Minimum of two years working with Graduate Medical Education Working knowledge of ACGME Common, Institutional and Program Requirements.
- Understanding of ACGME Policies and Procedures.
- Familiarity with UM Policies and Procedures, MedHub, Wolverine Access, Chrome River.
