Job Summary

At Michigan Medicine, our Multifunction Services Supervisors are functioning members of our health care team. You will establish and maintain aseptic environmental conditions for the Operating Rooms within the Kahn Health Care Pavilion. Environmental Services is responsible for following all infection prevention and control, OSHA, CMS, and Joint Commission (Environment of Care) standards, while responding constructively and professionally to service requests from patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities*

  • You will supervise Operating Room employees across the Michigan Medicine complexes ensuring they are following all compliance and safety regulations while maintaining a clean, safe, aseptic environment 
  • Ensure that payroll is processed accurately and in a timely manner by entering time, monitoring timesheets, and approving time for staff
  • Drive staff productivity to meet target turnaround times and appraise employee efficiency
  • Participate in recruitment and staff selection process
  • Onboard new staff members
  • Provide ongoing training and support to staff
  • Assign work areas and/or project duties
  • Collaborate with peers throughout Michigan Medicine to plan and execute projects
  • Attend and participate in department staff meetings, professional development, and training courses
  • Lead, motivate, and mentor staff
  • Participate in quality management and patient satisfaction program
  • Manage equipment allocation, usage, and condition ensuring that all equipment is always clean and professional in appearance
  • Manage staff utilization to budget
  • Conduct performance evaluations and check-ins
  • Handle employee discipline and employee complaints/grievances when necessary
  • Implement and verify compliance with safety and regulatory requirements and governing bodies
  • Oversee service recovery efforts

Required Qualifications*

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) years supervisory experience
  • Must be able to work with cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Demonstrated capability of the following interpersonal skills: team building, teamwork coaching, conflict resolution, communication.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and implement quality improvement measures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent listening and empathy skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Reasonable knowledge of computer systems (i.e. Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Basic understanding of budgets and demonstrated ability to spend to a fixed budget

Desired Qualifications*

  • Associates degree and four (4) years supervisory experience in an educational, healthcare, hospitality, or other related field.
  • Experience working and complying with regulatory agencies
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan systems such as MiChart and M-Pathways
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine policies and procedures
  • Terminal Cleaning Certification preferred; must be willing and able to obtain if not currently certified.

Work Schedule

This position will be for Midnights/ Monday-Friday/ 9:00pm-5:30am. 

All shifts may require work on weekends and/or holiday rotations, and the willingness and ability to work longer hours as needed. 

Modes of Work

All shifts/positions are onsite.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
