Job Summary
The attendant will work under the direction of the Laboratory Support Supervisor and the Research Laboratory Technician, assisting the departments of Biology, Green Chemistry & Biochemistry. The position is designed to support the various equipment and stockroom needs that arise weekly.
Responsibilities*
Equipment
- Inventory of equipment in laboratories
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment utilizing standard operating procedures and manufacturer manuals
- Aid in establishment of new equipment
- Safety equipment inspections
Stockroom
- Check and restock first aid kits
- Collection of hazardous waste, chemical and/or biohazardous
- Receive and deliver packages
- Stock consumable materials in teaching labs
- Perform stockroom inventory counts
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
- Currently enrolled UM-Flint student (any academic standing)
- Be able to work both independently and with a team
- Strong communicator
- Positive attitude and motivated
- Ability to accurately input information into associated equipment and stockroom logs
- Ability to utilize common maintenance tools (screwdriver, pliers?)
- Ability to work with common maintenance chemicals (Ethanol, Sodium Bicarbonate)
- Able to work a consistent schedule, including shifts encompassing at least 3 hours/day
- Comfortable working and following protocol for labs in the department, as well as BSL2 spaces (aseptic technique, sterility)
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
