Responsibilities*

The Diba Lab at the University of Michigan is currently recruiting a research technician to assist in rodent behavioral tasks and investigations of spike trains recorded from large populations of hippocampal neurons in learning and sleep. The research technician will support multiple new and ongoing projects in the Diba Lab. The technician will handle rodents and help train them in behavioral tasks, including by piloting new behaviors to assess memory formation and consolidation relevant to newly funded NIMH grant as well as to provide preliminary data for a planned grant submission on the effects of anesthesia on hippocampal function. Additional related duties will include performing sleep-deprivation experiments using the gentle handling procedure, delivering anesthetics, and performing stereotaxic surgeries.  The technician will also take a lead role in preparing previously collected data for analysis related to a newly funded NSF grant, by running it through processing pipelines for spike detection and unit clustering across long-duration recordings. 

The Diba Lab (Anesthesiology, Michigan Medicine) is affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the University of Michigan. Required Qualifications*

Senior:

Previous experience in data analysis and programming with MATLAB is required. Additionally, applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in neurobiology or related field, 2 years prior research experience on sleep and circadian mechanisms of memory formation and consolidation and demonstrated research productivity in writing and preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. 

Inter:

Previous experience in data analysis and programming with MATLAB is required. Additionally, applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in neurobiology or related field, 1 year of prior research experience on sleep and circadian mechanisms of memory formation and consolidation and demonstrated research productivity in writing and preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. 

Work Schedule

This is a 20hr a week position.

THIS IS A ONE (1) YEAR TERM LIMITED APPOINTMENT (with a possibility of renewal for a second year depending on performance and availability of funding.)

This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening
