Job Summary

The Biology Department is seeking a qualified student candidate to assist with the BIO 487: Forest Ecology class during the Fall 2025 semester. This class meets every Friday 9:00am-4:00pm, from late August to mid-November. This position is filled on a per semester basis.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist the instructor with classroom and field studies focused on understanding how environmental factors, wildlife, and human activities influence the establishment ad growth of forest communities 
  • Follow and enforce field and animal use protocols
  • Help faculty member with field study prep and cleanup
  • Assist students with analyses of data
  • Facilitate student field projects involving, but not limited to, the following: forest vegetation identification, evaluating forest productivity, soil pit analysis, and invasive species monitoring

Required Qualifications*

  • Must have successfully completed BIO 487 at UM-Flint with a B grade or higher.
  • Able to work in typical field conditions during the fall in Michigan.
  • Transportation to drive up to 50 minutes to off-campus sites.
  • Maintain student status at UM-Flint.
  • Recommendation by a Biology faculty member.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in Biology and/or Chemistry labs is preferred.
  • Experience in Wildlife Biology-related research and techniques. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
