Job Summary

The student(s) selected for this position will help support the Planet Blue Ambassador (PBA) program at the University of Michigan-Flint. The PBA program is the entry point to sustainability at UM-Flint and beyond. The goal of this program is to empower individuals with the information and resources needed to live, work, and learn sustainably at UM-Flint. The term for this position is August 2025 - December 2025 with the potential for extension after evaluation by supervisor.

Who We Are

The Planet Blue Ambassador Program is a sustainability engagement program dedicated to educating the campus community about eco-friendly practices and connecting them to tangible learning opportunities on and off-campus. This program is a part of university wide commitment to carbon neutrality and is one of the only programs on-campus that spans across all three campuses. As part of the Planet Blue Ambassador team you will be interacting with sustainability staff from UM-Dearborn and UM-Ann Arbor.

Responsibilities*

As a Planet Blue Ambassador intern, you are expected to contribute to the day-to-day operations of the program, along with projects you will be responsible for during the semester. As such all interns must be able to:

  • Be available to table on behalf of the Planet Blue Ambassador program.
  • Set up, attend, and take-down for events.
  • Take pictures for events.
  • Reserve spaces for tabling, events, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Operate and post on Campus Connections.
  • Update PBA-applicable webpage draft documents to reflect current PBA resources and offerings.
  • Contribute relevant updates to the newsletter.
  • Send emails on behalf of [email protected].
  • Collect relevant information, events, and university progress on sustainability for social media and PBA newsletter.
  • Track relevant metrics that will contribute to the Planet Blue Ambassador program's assessment and continued progress.
  • Assist with creating and presenting PBA trainings and other educational materials.
  • Assist with pilot program upkeep and maintenance.

Required Qualifications*

Must be a current UM-Flint student

  • Consistently professional with regard to communication, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Collaborative - experience working successfully in a team environment.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Interest in sustainability and environmental justice. 
  • Understanding of links between sustainability, well-being, and identity.
  • Dedicated work ethic with the initiative to lead a project and see it through to completion.
  • Familiar with software: Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Zoom, Kahoot, and Canvas.

How You'll Grow

The chosen candidate(s) will have the opportunity to work on university sustainability issues and gain experience with project management, community engagement, behavior change, communications, organization, and interdepartmental collaboration.

Additional Information

The student(s) chosen for this position will report to the Sustainability Programs Coordinator and will collaborate with other university-affiliated units on-campus.
