Job Summary
The Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Michigan-Flint is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter to help coordinate basic needs and resources for students in the Wolverine Essentials resource center. This position will conduct research into the basic needs of current students, assess the services we currently provide, and examine other models of providing direct service to students. The role will work directly with students in assessing basic needs and providing appropriate resources. Finally, this role will oversee all aspects of the food pantry and clothing closet located within the resource center. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Students.
Responsibilities*
- Assist with daily operations of the Wolverine Essentials basic needs hub.
- Assist with food and clothing inventory including ordering food and supplies as needed;
- Ensure compliance with food safety guidelines and policies.
- Provide intakes for new users, discuss additional resource needs, and make appropriate referrals.
- Recruit, train, and assess volunteers.
- Manage related websites; create and distribute marketing materials as needed.
- Research and propose new evaluation and assessment opportunities.
- Learn the relevant laws and legislation that guide the profession, and maintain a current database of important literature in the field.
- Research other models in higher education that provide basic needs to students
- Create and conduct assessments. Use results to inform and improve policy and services.
- Provide support and assistance with the CARE team including serving as a case manager when assigned.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority
- Additional expectations include, but are not limited to, confidentiality of sensitive information (especially as related to FERPA protected records), timeliness with communication and deadlines, and follow through to complete assigned projects.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, or related field; or acceptance into a University of Michigan dual degree/coterminal program in a related academic discipline.
- Strong people skills with sensitivity to the needs of students.
- Self-motivation and discipline to carry out independent tasks.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to work with highly detailed information.
Modes of Work
Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
