Job Summary

Bacterial infections are a leading cause of death globally. Antibiotics are the primary treatment for bacterial infections, yet the rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria is growing at an alarming rate. Studies have shown that Cannabidiol (CBD) has antimicrobial properties and is effective in combating a wide range of disease-causing bacteria, such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus mutans, and Staphylococcus aureus. Recently, a new compound, hexocannabitriol has been discovered from the Cannabis sativa plant, and is suspected to have promising pharmacological properties, including antimicrobial potential. The antimicrobial properties of hexocannabitriol and its analogs have yet to be tested. Students will have the opportunity to test and quantify the antimicrobial properties of hexocannabitriol and its analogs against a range of bacteria.
