Michigan Medicine Operating Room (OR) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) employees are committed to contributing to an exceptional experience for each patient and family. The individual chosen for this position will be responsible for meeting the highest standards of customer service including exhibiting a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff. This is a Front Desk position for the Pavilion Operating Rooms. The candidate will oversee the Pavilion Fron Desk clerical tasks.

Responsibilities*

  • Oversee Pavilion Front Desk Operating Room clerical tasks
  • Schedule add-on cases in the OR Computer System
  • Move cases from the Wait/Virtual room if appropriate
  • Review all surgical cases to ensure they have proper supply and preference lists.      Coordinate corrections with the RN Leads for each surgical service.  
  • Run reports, verify information, investigate anomalies, and correct deficiencies.
  • Cover other clerical staff in the department as needed for breaks or emergency coverage.
  • Coordinate updates and print supply requisitions
  • Professionally and politely Field and route all phone calls
  • Utilize on-call schedule to call in any needed physicians, nursing staff, etc.
  • Assist staff and guests with OR-related questions
  • Assist in billing preparation and other paperwork
  • Provide clerical support when needed
  • Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility and consistently shares information and resources with others 
  • Train new team members
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and checklists 
  • Consistently remain at the OR Front Desk
  • Receive and give reliable, detailed report at the start/end of your shift
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Good investigative skills and strong attention to details
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Prioritizes work and manages time
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with members of the healthcare team.
  • Work well with minimal supervision and possesses strong attention to detail
  • Excellent attendance record

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of Perioperative and surgical environments
  • Working knowledge of MiChart (EPIC) and Microsoft Teams
  • Familiar with UMHS Policies and procedures
  • Basic medical terminology
  • Previous work/volunteer experience in a medical environment
  • Customer Service-Focused, multi-tasker, friendly, patient, compassionate, empathetic, dependable and responsible

Work Schedule

The Michigan Medicine operating rooms runs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. This is an onsite position. During training, the schedule will be predictable but will vary between days, nights, midnights, and weekends at each of the OR Front desks. The shift for this position will be AfternoonsMonday - Friday, 2:00pm - 10pm

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
