Job Summary

The CRC-Technician will be working on a clinical research study within the Department of Anesthesiology that is part of the Neuroscience Division.  The project's goals are to evaluate and improve cognitive recovery in older patients in the perioperative setting.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist with screening and recruitment of eligible surgical patients for EEG-related clinical trials. This includes meeting patients at their preoperative visits and performing baseline cognitive assessments.
  • Place EEG cap on patients prior to surgery.
  • Oversee and manage EEG data acquisition with laptop software before, during, and after surgery.
  • Manage EEG study databases, including cleaning, organizing, and labeling continuous and epoched data per study protocol.
  • Facilitate data transfer to other software programs (e.g., MATLAB, Chronux) for additional analysis.
  • Perform cognitive assessments (delirium screening) for patients on the units for up to three days after surgery.
  • Complete medical chart reviews for all enrolled patients.
  • Complete 30-day follow-up phone calls for all enrolled patients.
  • Enter data in various databases including RedCap and Excel-based databases.
  • Assist with data safety monitoring reporting every six months.

Supervision Received: This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to a Clinical Research Project Manager.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary. 
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary 
    or An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD. or Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.  
  • Must be able to work early mornings, early evenings as dictated by the surgery schedule, and weekends on a regular, weekly basis.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior EEG research experience involving human participants 
  • Prior experience with EEG software acquisition and database programs 
  • Prior experience with data platforms (ie, RedCap) 

Work Schedule

This position in an on-site position (University Hospital/UH-South) and does not qualify for a remote or hybrid work schedule.  Must be able to work early mornings, early evenings as dictated by the surgery schedule, and weekends on a regular, weekly basis

Additional Information

This is a term-limited position through April 2027, with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
