Job Summary
Assist Physics Faculty with their research projects.
Responsibilities*
Responsibilities may include:
- Performing experimental measurements in consultation with the Principal Investigator/Supervisor
- Performing statistical data analysis
- Preparing detailed written reports for scientific journals
- Maintaining laboratory equipment in good working condition
Required Qualifications*
- Current or recently graduated UM-Flint undergraduate student, not enrolled in a master's program.
- Successful completion of, or current enrollment for, sufficient academic work in discipline(s) applicable to the position, i.e., math, physics, computer science, and/or engineering coursework necessary to carry out the job duties
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to prioritize, pay close attention to detail, follow through with tasks, and work as part of a team of professionals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to observe and maintain confidentiality
Desired Qualifications*
Specific skill set based on the scope of the project. Some examples include
- The ability to create charts in Excel
- Computer programming skills
- Ability to prepare and edit reports, book chapters, and other documents
- Ability to review existing theories and models
- Perform experiments while adhering to lab safety protocols required by Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and the primary investigator (PI).
Work Schedule
Work schedule is to be determined and will occur between Summer 2025 and Winter 2026
Modes of Work
Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
