Job Summary

The lab of Zhong Wang, PhD housed within the Department of Cardiac Surgery is seeking a self-motivated and career-oriented postdoctoral research fellow to join an exciting and highly interactive research team. This position will conduct research with a goal of developing heart therapies to effectively prolong and improve the life of patients with cardiovascular disease.

The position will be focused on epigenetic regulation in heart disease, heart repair, and heart regeneration with three major research directions:

  1. Define essential cross-talks between histone acetylation and acetyl-CoA mediated energy metabolism in heart repair and regeneration.
  2. Identify epigenetic and post-translational modification mechanism and related molecules in stimulating reprogramming of fibroblasts into cardiomyocytes for heart regeneration.
  3. Explore novel strategies combining optimal cardiovascular cell types and bioengineering/biomaterials for heart cell therapy.

Responsibilities*

  • Operates with considerable actions or decisions. Responsible for decision making regarding reproductive research and daily activities. May function as liaison with other departments, divisions, or organizations.
  • Develops, designs, and conducts one or more large complex research experiments in line with plan, reviews progress and evaluates results.
  • Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends, and implements solutions.
  • Trains users in equipment operations and laboratory techniques. May also mentor students in the lab.
  • Consults with users to refine or adapt methodologies to fit specific experimental requirements.
  • Works directly with PI on the development and implementation of research plans and goals.
  • Co-authors publications and manuscripts. 
  • Presents research findings.

Required Qualifications*

  • PhD degree in biochemistry/cell and molecular biology/biomedicine.
  • Strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, stem cells, and related fields accompanied by a proven track record of publications.
  • Specialized expertise in stem cell culture and animal work, and a demonstrated history of successful engagement in such experiments are particularly preferred.
  • Proficiency in protein-protein interactions, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, RNA-seq, flow cytometry, immunostaining, PCR, Western blot, animal experiments, mouse reproduction, DNA transformation, and molecular biology is highly desirable.

Background Screening
