Job Summary

Reporting to the Benefits Manager, LTD Program, you will manage Long Term Disability (LTD) claims, ensuring compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements. The Benefits Administrator Intermediate evaluates employee eligibility, analyzes job data, coordinates with insurance providers and internal stakeholders, and guides employees through the claims process with care.  You will use your strong analytical skills to provide accurate information and compassionate support to faculty and staff navigating Long Term Disability benefits.

Responsibilities*

  • Guide employees through the LTD claim application process, ensuring they understand requirements and deadlines.
  • Review and process LTD claims, maintain accurate employee records, and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Clearly communicate benefit entitlements and approve employment status changes for employees moving to or from LTD.
  • Provide regular and timely updates to internal stakeholders, including Work Connections, HR Partners and Payroll throughout the LTD claims process.
  • Calculate LTD benefit payments, including retroactive and future adjustments, and submit required documentation for continuation of university benefit plans.
  • Process health statement applications for LTD enrollment and verify eligibility.
  • Ensure compliance with LTD plan rules and protect confidential health information.
  • Conduct benefit audits to confirm eligibility and compliance with LTD plan provisions.
  • Review and recommend updates to LTD policies and plan documents.
  • Maintain accurate LTD data in the system to support reporting and program integrity.
  • Support vendor management by overseeing documentation and ensuring quality service.
  • Issue termination letters for non-compliance with LTD requirements.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance LTD program administration.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 2 years in a similar role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, communication, customer service, organization, and prioritization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data management principles, including maintaining data integrity and handling of confidential materials.
  • Experience with one or more enterprise business systems such as HRIS, benefits administration platforms, or payroll systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint.   
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task and set work priorities. 

Work Locations

Will require some regular onsite presence at Wolverine Tower (ie, 2-3 days per week) during the initial training period.  Flexible or hybrid work may be allowed; flexible work arrangements are reviewed annually and may be subject to change.
