Job Summary
The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) at the University of Michigan, invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I for the Fall 2025 Term. The successful candidate will teach a course related to Chinese Culture and Modern China. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025.
Due to the replacement nature of this appointment, the funding for this position will only be available in Academic Year 2025-2026.

Responsibilities*
Responsibilities include instruction of Introduction to Chinese Civilization and/or Introduction to Modern China classes and active involvement in teamwork and program affairs. Appointment level will be 33-66%. This is a renewable one-term appointment.
Required Qualifications*
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field of modern Chinese Studies. Native or near-native proficiency in English is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience successfully teaching survey and seminar topics courses related to modern China culture.
The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
Desired Qualifications*
Expertise in Chinese literature and culture during the Republican, Maoist, and contemporary eras is preferred. At least two years of experience teaching at the college/university level is expected. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience successfully teaching survey and seminar topics courses related to modern China culture.
Modes of Work

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
