Job Summary

The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician Associate or Intermediate to assist with work involving sterile tissue culture techniques, cell biology and molecular biology, biochemistry, and quantitative microscopy-based assays directed at the cell division cycle. Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, sub-cloning, DNA assembly, PAGE analysis etc.) and sterile tissue culture techniques is required. 

Additional responsibilities include hazardous waste disposal, preparation of media and buffers, organization and maintenance of lab databases, ordering, and data entry. The candidate should possess good organizational and communication skills. They should be willing to learn new procedures and methods. The ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently is also essential. 

The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to exciting research projects, and learn cutting edge techniques including quantitative live cell fluorescence microscopy, CRISPR/Cas9 mediated genome editing, etc. This job can serve the candidate as the ideal springboard for further graduate education.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist ongoing research by generating reagents, performing experiments, data analysis, etc.
  • Expected to contribute to scientific publications
  • Lab management - ordering, maintaining lab databases, managing undergraduate student research assistants, preparation of crucial lab stocks (media, chemicals, buffers, etc.)

Required Qualifications*

  • Research Lab Tech Associate: High school diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience is required. Bachelor's degree in Cell & Molecular Biology and laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Research Lab Tech Intermediate: HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 1-3 years' experience is required. Bachelor's degree in Cell & Molecular Biology and laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment are required

Desired Qualifications*

  • 2 years or more of experience in basic wet lab techniques including molecular biology and biochemistry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cell & Molecular Biology, Biophysics, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment are required.

Background Screening
