Job Summary

This position is a full time Care Management clinical social worker with the inpatient team for the Children's & Women's Hospitals (C&W), covering the Neonatal ICU. Care Management Social Work services include but are not limited to the following: biopsychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, fetal or reproductive loss, end of life, grief and loss, assessment of coping, medical literacy, abuse assessment and referral to CPS, accessing resources to facilitate hospital transitions and/or discharges, adoption coordination, linkage to community agencies, mental health assessments, tangible resources, participation in team meetings and educational activities related to the needs of patients and their families

Responsibilities*

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is required. 
  • Must possess a limited license or full license to practice social work in the State of Michigan (LMSW or LLMSW).
  • Clinical practice concentration and field placement practicum or recent work experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

Desired Qualifications*

The ideal candidate will have significant medical social work experience, strong assessment skills, the ability to establish therapeutic relationships quickly, and to relate well to a diverse population. It is essential that the candidate be able to manage a large caseload with multiple competing demands. The ability to work independently in a variety of stressful and demanding situations is essential; critical decision making, excellent assessments, brief interventions and multitasking are only several of the advanced skills required for success. Additionally, the ability to provide high-level interventions while also meeting basic tangible and concrete needs is required. The successful candidate must also be able to work with multidisciplinary teams and access community resources in order to facilitate transitions and discharge planning. Experience providing crisis intervention and grief counseling is essential, along with brief interventions to facilitate patient
and family participation in appropriate health care decision making

Work Schedule

The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. This position does include a holiday rotation coverage requirement.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification. Priority will be given to employees within the Care Management Department base on seniority

This position may be filled using an FLSA exempt or non-exempt designation.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
