Job Summary
The Marsal Family School of Education seeks a passionate and visionary Director of Recruitment & Admissions to implement school-wide recruitment strategies and to lead a team of professionals in the recruitment and admission of students, from the application process through enrollment. This position is expected to work collaboratively across various academic programs and departments, as well as across campus and with external stakeholders. This position is situated in the portfolio of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Educator Preparation, and reports to the Chief of Staff.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to connect with people, develop and implement creative strategies to market our programs, enhance our reach, and increase enrollment. This role requires someone who is proactive, collaborative, and excited to champion the values of our institution. By fostering meaningful relationships with potential recruits and promoting our vibrant school community, the Director of Recruitment & Admissions will play a critical role in shaping the future of education at Marsal. The Director of Recruitment & Admissions is directly responsible for the organization's success by ensuring that both the recruitment and admissions processes are effective and contribute to the overall business and academic goals.
Responsibilities*
Recruitment
- Create and implement a comprehensive and coordinated school-wide student recruitment plan, supporting all academic programs, including special initiatives such as non-certification pathways, online programs, and pilot projects.
- Spearhead recruitment plans for new freshman admissions, the growth of the LEAPS (Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Public Good), and the new Online master's degree.
- Develop and execute both short- and long-term strategies to discover and cultivate prospective students, aiming to generate a highly qualified and diverse applicant pool for various educational programs.
- Engage with prospective students through one-on-one meetings and dynamic group presentations to spark interest and empower them to become impactful educators, shaping future generations and making a lasting difference in their communities.
- Collaborate with Marsal school and academic program leadership on strategies and tactics for recruitment and enrollment.
- Engage with department chairs in enrollment goal setting and monitoring enrollment trends.
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team, and other colleagues as appropriate, to design and implement effective marketing campaigns and promotional materials to support recruitment efforts.
- Build relationships across UofM's campus and with external stakeholders to support both recruitment and admissions activities.
- Manage a recruiting budget and provide accurate applicant and enrollment projections in partnership with the Director of Finance and Chief of Staff.
- Support the development and implementation of K-12 pipeline programs, such as "Grow Your Own" initiatives.
Admissions
- Manage, evaluate, and improve upon all aspects of the admissions processes to increase enrollment and enhance student body diversity.
- Collect, analyze, and disseminate data related to recruitment and attrition, using tools such as Salesforce and Tableau to provide actionable insights for school leadership. Use this information to adjust recruitment and admissions strategies as appropriate.
- Liaison with the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Rackham Graduate School to align admissions processes and requirements.
- Measure the effectiveness of admissions strategies. Refine and adjust strategic approaches based on analyzing outcomes against goals.
- Standardize processes to improve reporting accuracy; evaluate deadline impact on admissions, especially rolling admissions deadlines; align application requirements with other university trends, etc.).
- Determine the amount of school-supported scholarship funds to allocate to each program in order to yield the desired cohort size in collaboration with academic leadership, the Scholarship and Fellowship Manager, and the Chief of Staff.
Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and support a cohesive team of six recruitment and admissions professionals. Lead their professional development and encourage proactive outreach and engagement with prospective students.
- Assist with school events, activities, and initiatives as needed.
- Serve as a liaison with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Rackham Graduate School.
- Represent the school to internal and external constituents, including university officials, administrators, educational consultants, outside educational agencies, other higher education institutions, community college personnel, high school counselors, as well as students and their families.
Other
- Engage in frequent travel to actively recruit prospective students for the Marsal Family School of Education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree with 10 years of high-level experience in recruitment or marketing, or a Master's degree with 5 years of high-level experience in recruitment or marketing.
- Proven experience in building and nurturing professional relationships with a positive and engaging attitude.
- In-depth understanding of market trends and challenges within the field of education.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing recruiting strategies
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex analyses into actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
- Previous supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to build, lead, and support a cohesive team using positive and motivational leadership.
- Experience in effective budget management.
- Proficient in using customer relationship management (CRM) software, such as Salesforce or Slate.
- Advanced proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

- The position will require regular travel to recruitment events and meetings both state-wide and nationally. Possible international travel as well.
Desired Qualifications*
- Knowledge and skill using UM Systems: MPathways (e.g. Business Objects, MReports) or familiarity with similar systems
- Knowledge and skill using University-supported systems (e.g.,Tableau) or familiarity with similar systems
- Social media, digital and print marketing knowledge
- Advanced background in marketing and recruitment
- Familiarity with education careers, such as teaching, policy, administration
Work Schedule
This role is a full-time, in-person position at 610 E. University, Ann Arbor, MI. Requires frequent travel, evening and weekend work.
