Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Recreational Services, the Member Services Manager is responsible for providing quality patron experiences, and assisting with the management of Recreation Center daily operations. To succeed in this role, you will need to be passionate about customer service and mentoring student staff.

Responsibilities*

  • Program Oversight
    • Oversee all aspects of the Rec Center Memberships Services program, including student, faculty, staff and community access.
    • Supervise members services related operations including customer service desk and equipment check out.
    • Develop and execute a new member recruitment marketing plan and member retention program; collaborate with marketing coordinator on efforts.
    • Advance program efficiency and effectiveness through the use of existing and new technology; serve as the primary manager of member management software (Fusion)
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Staff Oversight
    • Recruit, train, evaluate and supervise part-time member services student staff to ensure the Rec Center is one of the most welcoming locations on campus.
    • Develop and conduct trainings and associated manuals for member services student staff. Provide regular staff development via one-on-one meetings, in-services, and/or staff meetings.
    • Assist with coordination of rec staff engagement events.
    • Review bi-weekly timesheets of student temporary staff throughout the fiscal year.
    • Provide supervision and support for operations student staff when Assistant Director is off site.
  • Fiscal Management
    • Responsible for the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to areas of responsibility.
    • Manage all payment options associated with memberships and department operations. Responsibilities include processing payments, running reports, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
    • Coordinate communication to members with declined payments and membership cancellations, as needed.
    • Serve as department cash custodian, ensure proper preparation of daily deposits by student staff, and reconcile.
    • Manage inventory and coordinate ordering of equipment available for check out at the Rec Center.
  • Facilities Oversight
    • Assist with development and enforcement of policies and procedures
    • Assist the Assistant Director with Rec Center space management, including processing room reservations and scheduled activities in Event Management System (EMS)
    • Determine semester offerings for open recreation activities.
    • Communicate with renters and preparing related forms, signage and reports.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in collegiate recreation, health club, or other similar industry
  • Experience in customer service and training staff in operations procedures and safety measures.
  • Current certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Modes of Work

Onsite:

The work requires, or the supervisor approves, a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
