Job Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for highly motivated and skilled Research Specialists to join a dynamic, collaborative group of labs focusing on targeted drug delivery and the development of groundbreaking therapeutics to address real-world clinical challenges. These studies are centered on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and cardiac arrest resuscitation, concentrating on neuronal injury mechanisms, and neuroprotective therapies. These research projects are translational, emphasizing novel intellectual property creation and clinical applications. This position will include work under the direction of multiple PIs, and will engage in a highly collaborative and innovative research environment, working closely with research faculty and staff at our established labs and beyond. We're looking for passionate individuals with an interest in drug design, translational pharmacology, and cardiac arrest and TBI models.
Responsibilities*
- Experimental Research: Conduct experiments related to targeted drug delivery, therapeutic development, and translational applications, particularly focused on TBI, stroke, and cardiac arrest.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with research faculty and staff to contribute to active projects on cardiac arrest and HTTM therapies.
- Data Management and Analysis: Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data to ensure precision and reliability; prepare findings for reports, publications, and presentations.
- Protocol Development: Assist in the development and refinement of lab protocols, with a focus on TBI, stroke, and cardiac arrest, facilitating translational research objectives.
- Research Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records and contribute to the preparation of scientific papers, grant proposals, and other necessary documentation.
- Team Collaboration: Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss progress, share insights, and plan future research. Promote a collaborative environment by sharing techniques and expertise.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all research complies with safety and regulatory protocols, including IACUC guidelines.
- Lab Operations Support: Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure efficient and safe operation.
- Innovation and Problem Solving: Contribute creatively to the development of intellectual property by proposing innovative research methodologies and applications.
- Mentorship and Training: Provide mentorship to junior lab members and support training efforts for students and new staff in laboratory protocols.
Required Qualifications*
Senior Level:
- Master's degree in biology, animal science, or a related field with 6+ years of experience, or a PhD with 3+ years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Significant experience with aseptic surgery.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and a strong drive for skill development.
Intermediate Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, or a related field, with 4+ years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Some experience with aseptic surgery.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and eagerness to acquire new skills.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's or PhD in biology, animal science, or a related discipline with 10+ years of laboratory experience.
- Extensive experience performing aseptic surgery.
- Proven organizational and communication skills, ability to work autonomously, and a passion for developing expertise.
Work Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional nights and weekends based on project needs.
