Job Summary

This position is for the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion. Acceptance of this position cannot be withdrawn if tentative start date is within the next 60 days.

Responsibilities*

Pick-up and deliver laundry, materials and equipment associated with laundry operation, utilizing single unit motor vehicles to designated locations in the Hospitals and Health Centers. Will move material by hand or by using material handling equipment. Arrange and secure stock utilizing restraining devices such as ropes, E-tracks. Will need to record any mechanical issues that occur or vehicle problems on trip log, in addition informing supervisor, through email. Will also be responsible for recording every time you move a truck from point A to point B, where from, what time you left, what time you arrived, what was delivered and picked up on trip log.

Required Qualifications*

  • No Points on Drivers License.
  • CDL B Air Brake Endorsement.
  • The position requires a CDL license and certification.
  • Medical Exam Certificate.
  • Operate single 30ft motor vehicle straight truck
  • Ability to perform vehicle safety inspections.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, listens effectively, accurately read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities: pushing/pulling 600 to 800 lbs., lifting 35 to 60 lbs., bending, and manual dexterity with no lifting restrictions.
  • Subject to DOT Random Drug Testing Program.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Demonstrated history of excellent customer service.
  • Exemplary attendance record.
  • Experience with laundry/linen procedures, equipment, and products.
  • Route delivery experience with a proven on-time delivery record.
  • Familiarity with UM locations at the UMHS Medical Center as well as off-site locations.

Work Schedule

Standard hours:  40 hours
Work days: Monday - Friday / 3:30am - 11:30am

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
