Job Summary

A research lab specialist intermediate is sought to work in a highly productive and collaborative laboratory at the University of Michigan studying connections between cutaneous inflammation and autoimmune diseases.

Responsibilities*

  • The applicant is expected to be well versed in the scientific process and animal handling techniques with an ability to read the literature and self-train in new techniques. Skills including flow cytometry, primary cell isolation and culture, and basic microscopy should be familiar to the successful candidate.
  • Applicants should be able to troubleshoot experimental protocols, generate and analyze data, including application of standard statistical technique, and prepare figures for publications.  
  • Applicants will be expected to assist with ordering of reagents, interface with research sponsors, including industry contacts, and help to organize basic lab functions and regulatory requirements. Training of graduate and undergraduate students in various techniques is expected, and assistance with other projects at the discretion of the PI is also expected. 

Required Qualifications*

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelors degree in a field related to immunology or cell biology.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience. 
  • Demonstration of substantial independence in experimental troubleshooting and figure generation for manuscripts is expected.  

Associate Level

  • Bachelor's Degree in a field related to immunology or cell biology.
  • 1-3 years of experience in related field.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Graduate degree is preferred.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
