Job Summary

The Michigan Firearm Law Implementation Program (M-FLIP) at the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP) seeks a Temp Research Assistant to work closely with the M-FLIP team to develop, design, and assist with M-FLIP projects and initiatives. Potential projects may include assisting with an ongoing analysis of extreme risk protection order (ERPO) usage in the state of Michigan by collecting, coding, and analyzing ERPO court record data from across the state. Additional activities include assisting in training product design and communications design (newsletters, social media, web) for training and resources such as webinars, self-paced courses, written guides, and toolkits. Additional duties may be assigned. Hours can be flexible, but expected to range from 25-30 hours per week.

Responsibilities*

The job functions of this role will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Data collection and analysis as part of the ongoing Michigan ERPO use study.
  • Draft language and content for Institute materials and programs such as for the newsletter, policy briefs,website, and other communications and activities.
  • Communicate on a consistent basis with team members, supervisors, colleagues, providing input on project goals, objectives, and operations.
  • Additional activities as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Effective organization and management of multiple priorities in a complex environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to both work independently and as a successful team member.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with academic research enterprises including: externally sponsored research, research administration, and funding sources.
  • Knowledge of firearm injury prevention science.
  • Knowledge of extreme risk protection orders and other firearm injury prevention laws.
