Job Summary

The National Center for School Safety (NCSS) at the University of Michigan Institute of Firearm Injury Prevention seeks a research assistant to assist with center activities. The NCSS provides comprehensive and accessible support to STOP School Violence federal grantees and the school safety field nationally to address today?s school safety challenges.

The NCSS creates and disseminates evidence-based resources and assistance to the school safety community. The center works to identify best practices and evidence-based resources, develop training materials, coordinate training events, and assist schools in designing and implementing a comprehensive school safety plan.

Responsibilities*

The roles and responsibilities of the research assistant will focus on support related to data and evaluation across the teams, including: 

  • Data entry and analysis to support the NCSS needs assessment 
  • Create tables and figures for reports, papers, and presentations
  • Analyze post-training evaluation data and create reports for national trainings
  • Data entry and organization for reporting to funder
  • Conduct small-scale literature / best practice review on topics related to evaluation best practice, and/or school safety
  • Other tasks related to data, evaluation and research as assigned. 

Hours can be flexible depending on project and availability, ranging from 15-25 hours per week.

Required Qualifications*

  • Basic qualitative data skills
  • Comfort generating tables and graphs from qualitative data 
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly gather and summarize information related to school safety
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Interest in school safety, youth violence prevention, or positive youth development.

Modes of Work
