Responsibilities*
Conduct cutting-edge research as a member of the epithelial biology and mucosal inflammation group. Investigate and characterize novel molecules that regulate the gut barrier and identify mechanisms of compromised barrier ("leaky gut") during inflammation contributing to the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases that include inflammatory bowel diseases. Investigate how the gut lining cells repair after injury and can be targeted to ameliorate deleterious disease symptoms in inflammatory bowel diseases. Conduct and supervise experiments involving the design and development of innovative models that simulate the intestinal environment and study disease progression. Participate in peer-reviewed manuscripts in top scientific journals and contribute to scientific grant funding proposals. Mentor and provide leadership to postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate students. Present research findings at institutional, national, and international meetings. Participate in departmental or institutional committees to provide scientific advice and guidance and contribute to the strategic direction of research initiatives.
Required Qualifications*
Requires PhD in Cell and Molecular Physiology or a closely related field + 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in epithelial biology with emphasis on gut barrier function. Must have at least 3 first-author peer-reviewed journal publications in the field of intestinal mucosal barrier and repair.
