Job Summary

Michigan Medicine known for its commitment to providing high quality, family-centered patient care, seeks an experienced certified ultrasound sonographer for our Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center to perform obstetric ultrasound examinations with supervision of Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians in a high risk obstetric ultrasound unit. We provide a full range of consultative and diagnostic services, including ultrasounds, antenatal testing, genetic counseling, MFM consults, prenatal diagnosis, genetic amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and complex procedures.

Responsibilities*

  • Select equipment for use in ultrasound and set up according to specifications of examinations.
  • Review patient's clinical history. Explain processes to patients and assist in positioning patients for required scan. 
  • Adjust equipment controls according to specific orders and areas of the body to be examined. 
  • Operate ultrasound diagnostic equipment, observing sound wave display screen to note ultrasonic pattern produced. 
  • Produce visual images of fetus and organs shown on display module to obtain permanent records of internal examination. 
  • Attach identification tag to photographs or recorder printout. 
  • Set up and adjust equipment using operator tuning adjustment. 
  • Perform operator maintenance of ultrasound equipment. 
  • Train, instruct and demonstrate the operation of the ultrasound equipment to staff, medical students, physicians and other professional medical personnel. 
  • Maintain necessary records concerning patients. 
  • Discuss scan results with Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from an ultrasonographic training program is necessary.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology is necessary. 
  • Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is necessary.
  • Must be comfortable working closely with the Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center Team, physicians, nurses, genetic counselors, clerical staff and other team members.
  • Providing outstanding patient care is essential. Excellent attendance and punctuality is a must. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in obstetrics, fetal anomalies, 3D and 4D sonography highly desired.
  • Certification in First Trimester screening is a plus.

Background Screening
