Job Summary

Be at the forefront of change and become a part of the innovative and forward-thinking academic team at the University of Michigan-Flint's Social Work Department in the rapidly expanding College of Health Sciences! The Social Work Department is searching for a faculty member who will serve as the Program Director for its BSW program.  The program is currently undergoing CSWE reaffirmation. This is a full-time Clinical or Tenure Track Associate or Full Professor position with 50% instructional and 50% administrative responsibilities. This hybrid position requires a regular presence on campus.  We seek to hire faculty with expertise on the generalist social work curriculum.

Currently, faculty in the College of Health Sciences are required to report to campus minimally two days a week.  This is subject to change based on the program, department, college or University needs.

Responsibilities*

BSW Program Director

  • Provides Department leadership for the BSW Program and CSWE reaffirmation
  • Provides data to support budget planning and financial management oft he BSW Program
  • Assists the Social Work Department in developing and implementing strategic plans
  • Leads initiatives to:
    • Establish and review the BSW curriculum in accordance with CSWE standards;
    • Recruit students;
    • Meet students' needs to enhance student retention and success;
    • Facilitate and maintain new and/or existing collaborations with community partners;
    • Build a strong BSW alumni and donor network;
    • Facilitate a positive and supportive work environment; and
    • Encourage scholarly work of faculty and students

Clinical or Tenure-Track Faculty

Teaching

As a faculty leader, the BSW Program Director is also expected to demonstrate exemplary teaching throughout the BSW curriculum.

Scholarship

Maintains personal scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for clinical-track or tenure-track faculty. Clinical-track faculty are required to have an active research agenda and may achieve this by working with other faculty.  Tenure-track faculty are required to have an active research agenda, establish their ability to conduct independent research and work collaboratively with other faculty in scholarly endeavors. In both clinical and tenure tracks, scholarly work is expected to make a contribution to and an impact on the profession/discipline, to interdisciplinary areas, and/or to pedagogical endeavors.

Service

All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, college, department, profession, and the community. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Current CHS Social Work Department faculty members who hold the needed experience and education to be considered an Associate/Full Clinical or Tenure-Track Professor at the time of application
  • Academic degree:
    • For Clinical-Track: an MSW from a CSWE accredited program
    • For Tenure-Track: a PhD or other doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, in addition to an MSW from a CSWE accredited program
  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time post-MSW professional practice experience
  • Relevant clinical and/or professional practice commensurate with clinical or tenure-track guideline in CHS
  • Evidence of effective leadership
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, teaching, and service activities
  • Experience teaching social work courses using a variety of modalities

Desired Qualifications*

  • Eligibility for professional social work licensure in the state of Michigan
  • Experience developing BSW courses
  • CSWE accreditation and reaffirmation experience

Modes of Work

Hybrid

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan-Flint and the UMFAFT-AAUP, AFT Michigan local 5671, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
