Job Summary

Be at the forefront of change and become part of the innovative and forward-thinking academic team in the University of Michigan - Flint's Master of Science Physician Assistant Program in the rapidly expanding College of Health Sciences! The Physician Assistant Department is seeking applications for a 12-month faculty position as the Associate Director of Clinical Education (ADCE) as an Assistant/Associate Clinical or Tenure-Track Professor. This position is 50% instructional and 50% administrative. This track and rank will be commensurate with experience and academic credentials. This hybrid position requires regular presence on campus. The desired start date for this position is Fall 2025.

Currently, faculty in the College of Health Sciences are required to report to campus minimally two (2) days per week. This is subject to change based on Program, Department, College, or University needs.

Responsibilities*

Associate Director of Clinical Education

Provide effective leadership of clinical education within the MSPA Program, which includes:

  • Planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, monitoring, and assessing clinical education activities
  • Communicating clearly and promptly with the Program Director, clinical team, faculty, staff, students, and clinical preceptors about matters pertaining to the clinical year
  • Developing, maintaining, and assessing clinical rotation sites in collaboration with UM - Flint administration and the PA Clinical Team
  • Facilitating clinical team meetings
  • Managing continuing medical education credits for clinical preceptors
  • Supervising clinical year schedule with clinical coordinator support
  • Conducting site visits on assigned students and performing periodic clinical site audit visits
  • Supervising the updating/maintaining of clinical site database in program software with clinical coordinator support
  • Assisting Department Director to ensure clinical phase curriculum meets practice standards and scope, and complies with accreditation requirements
  • Monitoring students' academic and professional performance
  • Assisting with development of program curriculum
  • Serving on the PA Program Management Team
  • Functional oversight of clinical team members
  • Chairing a PA Program standing committee as directed by the Program Director

Assistant/Associate Clinical or Tenure-Track Professor

Teaching:

Includes teaching the program's clinical education courses and possibly other courses as assigned based on departmental needs.

Scholarship:

Engages in scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for Clinical or Tenure-Track Faculty.

Service:

All CHS faculty members are expected to provide service to the University, College, Department, profession, and the community. Consistent with the mission of CHS and the University, professional service contributions to the Flint and regional community are valued as well as national and international contributions. Engagement in service activities at multiple levels is required. The quality and impact of service contributions is more important than the number of different service activities. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Current CHS Physician Assistant Department faculty members who hold the needed experience and education to be considered an Assistant/Associate Clinical or Tenure-Track Professor at the time of application
  • For a Clinical-Track position:
    • a Master's or doctoral degree in Physician Assistant or relevant discipline
    • Professional/clinical experience as a PA involving direct patient care
      • Clinical Assistant Professor - 3 years
      • Clinical Associate Professor - 5 years
  • For a Tenure-Track position: 
    • a PhD or related academic doctoral degree in a relevant discipline
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Current/eligible for PA licensure in the state of Michigan
  • Prior experience supervising PA students in the clinical setting

  • Senior faculty status
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity

Modes of Work

Hybrid

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan - Flint and the UMF AFT-AAUP, AFT local 5671, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
